Contributions in Coventry | Successful and respected joint owner and company director of the family garage business of W. Brandish and Sons Ltd of Raglan Street Coventry, which was founded by his father, Walter Brandish. The company was also a major Vauxhall dealership in the city. A daring and impressive motorcycle rider, performing stunts for charity in many places including Crystal Palace, Nuremberg and Vienna – but also in the race tracks of Coventry especially the Butts stadium. A pioneer member of the Coventry Motor Cycle Football Club and one of the first riders to race at the Lythalls Lane dirt track. | |
A Member of | Trinity Lodge no 254 (1934-1989; Master in 1948) Part of the team defining the “Trinity Workings” and producing in 1951 the first book of ritual, none having been previously printed. As Director of Ceremonies his term of office included the successful 200th Anniversary Celebration of the lodge. | |
Charitable Works | He supported the Royal Masonic Hospital generously for many years, becoming a Life Governor and a Grand Patron. His wife of over 50 years, Marjorie, was the daughter of Tom Paybody, who founded the “Paybody Home” later the “Paybody Eye Hospital” on the Allesely Road, in Coventry. | |
Random Facts | In April 1978 he chased away two teenagers from his garden in the Kenilworth Road, because they were fishing, with proper fishing rods, in his goldfish pond. He was a breeder of goldfish, and his large pond held over 100 of them. |
